Robot training data from food processing plants in Gujarat
Gujarat has food plants of every kind, from dairies to snack and spice units, and in many of them sorting, cutting, packing and sealing are still done by hand. That's the work food robots are being built to take on. We record it as egocentric video and multi-view footage, under each plant's hygiene rules.
The hand work
The products vary, but the movements repeat. Sorters stand at a belt and pick out bad pieces. Cutters peel, trim and slice. Packers fill pouches by scoop, guide them through a sealer, check weights and pack the pouches into cartons. In sweet and snack units, people shape dough and fill trays by hand. In spice units, workers clean and sort whole spices before grinding and pack the powder by weight.
Food is soft, irregular and easily damaged, and no two pieces are quite the same, so a robot needs to see a lot of variety. People also handle food in gloves and with tools such as scoops and knives, which changes how they grip.
Because food plants are spread across Gujarat rather than gathered in one town, we match each project to a plant. Tell us the product and the task, and we'll find a plant that does it.
Where we record
Food plants are spread across the state rather than packed into one town. These are the places we'd look first.
- Ahmedabad & Sanand
- Snack, spice and packaged food units around Ahmedabad.
- Rajkot
- Snack makers and edible oil mills serving Saurashtra.
Capture setups
- Chest camera
- A clear view of both hands over the belt or packing table, with nothing loose worn near the food.
- Multi-view rig
- Fixed cameras mounted above a sorting belt or packing station, outside the food zone.
- Wrist cameras
- Only where the plant allows them, since anything worn on the hands has to meet its hygiene rules.
- Labels
- Step boundaries such as pick, reject, fill, seal and pack, objects, hand keypoints and a short description of each action.
Consent and privacy
Every worker who appears in the data signs an informed consent form, and every plant signs an agreement covering what we record and how it can be used.
Food plants have strict hygiene rules and our crew follows them: hairnets, gloves and clean clothing, and cameras that are wiped down and fixed in place so nothing can fall into the product. Brand names, recipes and faces can be kept out of shot or blurred before delivery.
Start with a pilot
Tell us which tasks you need recorded, the camera setup and the labels you want. We'll reply with questions and a plan for a pilot: a few hours of footage first, so you can check the quality before committing to more.
